Recently I saw the movie WALL-E on DVD; it was AWESOME beyond all measure. I smack myself for not making time to see this film in theatres. Now obviously, since I loved this film so much, it can't be the culprit behind the whine-fest you're about to read. No, the true culprit is the fanart on this site. My problem not being that it's poorly drawn or compiled, but that many people on this site have drawn WALL-E and EVE as humans.
WALL-E and EVE as humans?...
WHY? Why must you burn my eyes with your utter lack of grasp for the beauty behind the fact that these characters AREN'T HUMAN? I'll try and encapsulate my Potentially Ill-founded Gripe (P.I.G for all intents and purposes) as much as I can.
The reason this bothers me is because if the two main characters in this film were human, it would completely undermine their discovery of the beautiful emotion that is love. As humans, love is an emotion we are naturally capable of, and as such if WALL-E and EVE were human their love wouldn't be some fantastic discovery, it would be something we'd expect. The true magic in them falling in love is that they were never programmed to experience this emotion, or any for that matter, yet they experienced it anyway. On another note, as robots they are devoid of animal instincts, like a sex-drive for example, so this lack of instinctual behavior would seem to infer that they are experiencing love in a much purer form, because a mutual amity and a concern for the security of one another is the most they can attain from each other. I mean come on, WALL-E crosses the entire galaxy just to hold EVE's hand for fucksake, his motives couldn't be any more pure!
A brief aside, this doesn't add much to my argument, but it is something to think about. The people who designed these robot went out of their way to make sure they looked as little like humans as possible. They purposefully avoided features like elbows, mouths and other anatomical parts found on humans. So basically these people that draw the robots as humans are pulling a complete reversal of the Pixar company's artistic decision. I know I'm grasping at straws with this one, but I felt it fair to point out.
Anywho, let's wrap these complaints up. I've drawn the conclusion that any person who's drawn these characters as humans has done so for one of the following reasons:
At any rate, I refuse to search the words WALL-E, wall e, walle or any of the derivatives thereof on this website, because almost every page of the search is plagued with this uninsightful, soulless garbage. Let me make this clear, many of these pieces are actually drawn very well. I'd kill to have the talent some of these people have, but I earnestly find it insulting that they find it necessary to completely overlook the main message behind the film just so they can add another Deviation to their gallery. Anyway, that's enough for today's P.I.G, hopefully I can get a running start before the angry mob comes after me.
